Holiday Details

This year the color scheme for the holidays around our house is similar to last year. Lots of blues and golds - but a few touches based on some new obsessions I have this year.

1) Framed Starbucks Bag - I bought a mug at Starbucks a few weeks back and fell in love with the snowman illustration on the bag. I remembered YHL had framed a Crate and Barrel bag a couple years ago. Inspired by their resourcefulness, I decided to turn this shopping bag into art:)

 2) Polka Dot, Faux Bois, Snake Skin and Metallic Gold Wrapping Paper - I looked high and low for polka dot wrapping paper and finally found a kraft paper version at Home Goods, which I snatched up immediately.

Holiday Photos with Wild Ginger

This year we decided to splurge a little on our holiday cards. This family is new to schmancy holiday cards. You'll probably remember for three years in a row I did eCards. Then finally I learned this is no longer cool:) Last year we took our own photo and ordered our card from Shutterstock (we saved a ton with an online promo at the time). This year, we went all out. This is Brendan's first Christmas walking and talking, and we want to really wanted to hire a pro to take our pictures this year. And that we did, a friend told us about Tara from Wild Ginger and we met her for a 30 minute session. I don't know how else to describe Tara's work - other than magical. Brendan was running around determined not to have his photo taken. I was stressed, Matt was freezing - but someone she captured images that are beautiful despite the curve balls we threw at her:) We picked two images for our holiday card and ordered them on matte paper from Minted. A little expensive, yes - but Minted cards are so beautifully printed - I honestly feel it is well worth the extra money.

Can you guess which image we picked for a our holiday card?

Coral, Gold and Seafoam Dreams

This shouldn't be surprise to anyone, I am most in love a specific color combo (more than any other) - that is of course - coral, gold and seafoam. These three colors were pretty much my wedding colors - these colors can do no wrong (that's just my humble opinion). The color scheme below works for a variety of spaces, makes for a lovely outfit, and are beautiful for a wedding - now the question is why have I been so hesitant about decorating with these colors all these years :) In our next home (which we hope to start looking for in the Spring) - I will most definitely build some sort of girl cave using these colors. With all boys in the house - a girly sanctuary of my own - only seems fair, right?

Dream Bedroom

It's on - we are starting to re-do our bedroom! Natural mattress delivered today and I am on the hunt for a new bed frame. I love a really romantic bedroom, tufting, sparkly accents, lots of glam for sure:) This image below might be my all time favorite. I keep repinning in on Pinterest, only to realize I've already repinned it about 58 times:) So, point is I really love it. Not so in love with the bedding, but the colors, the wallpaper, the headboard...OMG. And that lamp? Seriously...perfection.

Dusted with Snow

We woke up this morning to a perfect little sprinkling of snow covering the ground and trees surrounding our home. "Snowing!" Brendan exclaimed as he gazed out the window all morning. I'm really excited we are getting our tree today - what perfect weather to bring some Christmas cheer into the house. Now off to Target to find slippers for Brendan and coffee for me:)

The Great Bed Debate

It's come time that we need a new mattress, I mean really need a new mattress. Both of us wake up whining about shoulder pain. Yes, we are babies:) But seriously we need one.

And so we set out to Jordan's furniture for a green/natural mattress that is firm enough for him, yet soft enough for her. We found the perfect one, and then fell in love with the bed frame our dream mattress was sitting on top of. Suddenly we realized, it was also time for a grown up bed frame.

This is the bed that sparked my sudden need for a big girl bed. It is actually tufted, although you can't tell by this pic. Very deco inspired.

And then, I fell in love with this one at Joss and Main. Tufted wingback queen bed, what more can you ask for right. Perfectly feminine, but not so feminine that the other half would object:)

But the search didn't stop there:) As I scoured the internet for tufted beds. I stumbled upon this little number several times. First at Live Creating Yourself and then at The Nester. And to tell you the truth, my love for this bed grows by the minute. It also comes in a beige shade called Buckwheat.

I can't decide which is meant for us. Tomorrow we buy our mattress and am so hoping one of these beds just speaks to me:) I really love all three and can't decide right now. Thoughts ladies?

Sneak Peek - Holiday Family Photos

We had so much fun with Tara from Wild Ginger Photography during our holiday photo session. Brendan was more interested in running around and exploring than having his photo taken lol - and Tara chased him around like a true pro! Seriously we loved working with her :)

Here is sneak peek of a couple images from our mini-session a few weeks ago. Now to decide which photo will grace the front of our holiday card!

Cheetah might be the new Leopard

You all know, I am obsessed with leopard. Really, I can't get enough and sometimes think no pattern will ever take leopards place in my heart. Now, Cheetah is a cousin of leopard (right) so when I saw this new fabric at Ballard Designs I basically freaked out. Gray Cheetah is the name of this fabric and it's divine. I am smitten by the X-bench they have in their new holiday catalog, featured in Gray Cheetah on several pages. Normally I don't like such small scale patterns, but done sparingly the effect is really beautiful:)

Hanukkah Amazingness

I've been saying it (in secret) for years...and I've only admitted this out load to a few of my  best friends. I am obsessed with Hanukkah! Now - I just have to share my feelings with the masses. When I peruse home stores this time of year, I literally make a bee line for the Hanukkah decorations - which are the most beautiful things in the world. Then, I get sad because I can't buy any of this amazing stuff, since I am supposed to just celebrate Christmas (and have since I was a baby). Below are some pics from HGTV that illustrate my point people. Seriously, Hanukkah is where it's at. Gorgeousness - the colors, the style - love love love. This holiday really embodies my personal style - I don't know how else to describe it. Look below and you'll understand what I mean:)

Furniture Rearrange for the Holidays

This time of year (especially since it's already 30 degrees!) - I love to push the living room seating area in close to the fire for nuzzling and warmth.

This year I let the hubby pick the arrangement - he did me proud when he put the chairs on an angle in front of the fireplace (brill). I love the new setup even more than last year. Maybe I should let him in on the decorating fun more often since he's kind of awesome at it :)

Here's to warm nights in front of the fire...and maybe some hot cocoa and cashmere mittens too! Folks I'm ready for winter bring it on.

Adding Pizzazz to Instagram Photos

A co-worker recently introduced me to a new App to enhance photos - called PicFx. You've probably seen some amazing Instagram photos lately with romantic bubbles of light diffusing the light ever so softly? Well, if you had wondered how to get this effect yourself, it's one of the lighting options in PicFx (called Bokeh).

I am already hooked! Using PicFx before bringing photos into Instgram gives the best results:)

The Bag of My Dreams

As you all know, I have purchased about a dozen purses since my tried and true Banana republic Hobo fell apart during the summer:( Sad day it was, I loved my old bag. But, it was time for a change and I had wanted a warm brown bag ever since the first season of weeds! This is a color that truly goes with everything. The trouble was, I expected a LOT out of my new bag. I needed easy access, and something structured enough to hold it's shape and look polished no matter what (slouchy was not going to work this time around). The idea of digging around in a bag as a mom is intolerable. Finally, after returning a million bags, I stumbled upon this one. Introducing my BFF - Janine by Dooney and Burke! This bag has a flap to keep the interior safe, with a snap. Nothing falls out, but you can easily put things back in the bag without unsnapping the flap. For a mom, this is dynamite. If you're in the market for a new bag, this just might be your gall too!
